Rivers Of Water

Psalms 1:1-2 -- How blessed is the one who does not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand in the pathway with sinners, or sit in the assembly of scoffers! Instead he finds pleasure in obeying the LORD’s commands; he meditates on his commands day and night.

The Lord has been good and faithful to us in 2021 and we know His faithfulness and goodness never depreciates so we can expect a wonderful 2022. And, it begins with understanding the reality of Christianity is Christ in us, the hope of glory.

Colossians 1:27 -- God wanted to make known to them the glorious riches of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Thus, God has blessed us with an infallible counsellor in the person of His Son, who lives in us through the Spirit.

Isaiah 9:6 -- For a child has been born to us, a son has been given to us. He shoulders responsibility and is called: Amazing Adviser, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

The Truth is Jesus Christ. Knowing Him enables you to comprehend God's will.

In our life, we may encounter a mixture of deceptive counsellors. However, our own natural man is possibly the most deceptive advisor of all. The natural man does not always provide wicked advice in the conventional emotional sense. However, the natural man may provide religious advice that is more oriented toward our own self-interest than toward God's.

The Old Testament, of which Psalms is a significant portion, often used the law—a shadow of Christ— to depict the New Covenant reality of Christ in us. In this Psalm, this is the case. We are not to live by natural man's standards.

Rather than that, Jesus Christ is to be our life and, thus, our counsellor and mediator. We should make a point of reflecting on Him day and night. We must become Christ-like.

Every generation is planned by God to be formed into the image of Christ. He wants to acquaint us with Christ on an interior spirit level. Therefore, although Christ may instruct and guide us, His main role as our counsellor is to reveal Himself to us.

In other words, when we know Him, we often discover God's will. He is the counsellor whom God has bestowed upon us through the Holy Spirit's indwelling of His Son.

Psalms 1:3 -- And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.

"The Rivers of Water" is Jesus Christ in us through the power of the Holy Spirit. In order for His life to become our life, we must be rooted in Him as our flowing river – as our life.

To suggest that Jesus provides us "everlasting life" is a misunderstanding of what the term really means. No. God's eternal life is found only in the person of Jesus Christ. "I am the life," He said. The only way we can know that Jesus is our life is if we are grafted into Him through death and resurrection.

It is impossible for fruits to be produced without the vine; fruits must have a life-giving source. The Christian's spiritual growth is a direct result of their relationship with Jesus Christ.

Whatever we call "spiritual fruit" comes from Jesus Christ. The Christian does not have two spiritual lives—Jesus is the life.

Colossians 3:4 -- When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall you also appear with him in glory.

By the Holy Spirit's power, then, His life is the life that brings out the fruit of the Spirit in those who believe. The character of Christ, who lives within us and is made apparent through us, is reflected in the fruit of the Spirit.

Death has no power over that life since it was born out of triumph over death. For Christ's life is the only life that will last forever, and everything that comes from that life will thrive through Him.
